Wars of the Jews: Fall of Jerusalem (Gr. 9-12)

"There will not be left a stone upon a stone." Christ's prophesy might perplex us or amaze us depending on how well we understand what happened in 70 A.D. when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans. Part of Memoria Press' Classical Studies, Wars of the Jews is a short, ten lesson study based on the first-person testimony of Josephus. A Jew who became a Roman citizen and accompanied Titus' army as they encamped around Jerusalem, his account is eye-opening. The Book provides the Josephus text that describes this event (translated by William Whiston) - eight chapters from Book V and ten chapters from Book VI of Josephus' historical accounts. Some related artwork and a complete set of helpful endnotes complete this little book (141 pgs, pb.) The Student Guide divides the readings into ten lessons (plus an ending review lesson). Each lesson starts with a Facts to Know section that identifies some of the mentioned people and gives event times. Then follows a set of Comprehension Questions (sentence answers) and occasionally a vocabulary section (define words used in selection). The review lesson has sections for vocabulary; important people, places, and things; Who said that?; and comprehension questions. The Teacher Guide is a replica of the student book with answers included. 26 pgs, pb. ~ Janice
