Mission ABC Programs
A delightful introduction to a language. My high school French is pretty rusty but this program is so well-organized and easy-to-follow with good auditory support that I think anyone - no matter their language background - could reasonably expect an enjoyable and profitable learning experience. Familiar children's songs and Bible stories in the target language and clearly presented vocabulary and conversations make progressing through the workbook material interesting. Teacher prep is minimal (maybe 20-30 minutes per week) and typically involves gathering items or making flashcards. Games are an important part of the reinforcement and review but again prep is minimal - using masters to make copies. Developed in Canada for use in Christian schools, some English words reflect British spellings (i.e. colours). Not to worry though that these programs will be heavily laden with classroom "stuff"; they're simply and clearly organized and presented.
Each Workbook contains 20 lessons. #1 covers the alphabet, colors, shapes, days of the week, the creation story, and basic conversation. #2 reviews and expands vocabulary, the story of Noah, family, food, classroom, body parts, emotions, family tree. #3 reviews and expands, numbers, house, the story of Joseph, silverware, birthdays, clothing, clock, and introduces prepositions. #4 covers counting, transportation, buildings, money, translations, instruments, and introduces verbs. Workbooks are a combination of text w/ questions and exercises, and conversations. Although black and white, the illustrations are well-done and some could be colored. Tests (usually two per book) are in student books. The Teacher's Manual, three-hole punched looseleaf, provides the words to all songs, lesson plans, and game masters. The audio CD (enjoyable listening) has songs and conversations. Program includes the Teacher's Manual, all workbooks, and CD. ~ Janice
